Pictured here are some of the instruments I use in solo, band, and sit-in gigs. I also own a Martin D-18 acoustic, my trusty old Guild D35 from 1977 that I’ve had restored, a soprano ukulele, and an Epiphone lap steel. Each instrument has its distinctive personality for different occasions.
I’m familiar with multiple styles, including rock, country, bluegrass, “Americana,” blues, and others.
These days I perform throughout the Louisville, KY and southern Indiana area. You can hear me and my friends/bandmates on my YouTube Channel:
Back in my college days as a music major in Queens College, NY (Now the Aaron Copeland school of music), I studied classical guitar, music theory, and composition/orchestration.
While in New York, I studied voice with Dennis Britten in Manhattan, and later with Jackie Gladstone in Queens.
I also studied a bit of fingerstyle jazz guitar.
Giving lessons was an important part of those days. I taught mostly in Queens and Manhattan while attending college.
I played solo, with my horn band, S.C. Funktion, with my duo Jes’ Folks, and my country band, “Hired Hands” in clubs throughout NYC and Long Island.
Nowadays I play in clubs in the Louisville area with my new band, The Mike Jackman & Friends Quartet. Before that, I was a founding member of the Crazy Chester band, and Molly’s Mutts trio.
I am a proud member of the Louisville Federation of Musicians Local 11-637.
